Tell Sarah Palin: The Deficit is Not "Like Slavery"

A brand new doozy from Sarah Palin, a.k.a., "the person the Republican party wanted to put one heartbeat away from the Oval Office:"

In Iowa, Sarah Palin compared the federal debt she says shackles Americans to slavery...

"Our free stuff today is being paid for by taking money from our children and borrowing from China," she said at the Iowa Faith & Freedom Coalition's fall fundraiser at the State Fairgrounds Saturday night. "When that money comes due – and this isn't racist, but it'll be like slavery when that note is due." (source)

Seriously? Look, we can agree that we'd rather not have a deficit, and there's plenty of room for discussion and debate on how to reduce it. But the idea that future interest payments for debt are somehow equivalent to what slaves lived though is ludicrous and offensive.

And frankly, being lectured about the deficit by a Republican is a little hard to swallow, given that every Republican president since Eisenhower has left a larger deficit than he inherited.

Send Sarah Palin a message: Tell her the deficit is not "like slavery," and that she should be ashamed for saying that.
