It's outrageous, even by Republican standards. Not only are John Boehner and House Republicans trying to back out of a deal they themselves forced, they are trying to replace military cuts with cuts to Medicare and Social Security.
These reportedly include:
- Raising the Medicare eligibility age from 65 to 67
- Lowering cost of living increases to Social Security by changing the formula by which the government calculates inflation
- Cuts to Medicaid
The whole reason this deal was even necessary in the first place was because Republicans wouldn't agree to any revenue increases whatsoever. And now they're trying to back out of it, and rip gaping holes in America's safety net in the process. Don't let them get away with it.
